Following the Chevrolet Silverado’s footsteps very closely, the Sierra separates itself with more luxury and tech offered in the truck. Denali Ultimate anyone?
Arriving at GMC dealers just as the Chevrolet equivalent parks at theirs, the 2027 GMC Sierra brings even more luxury to the pickup truck line-up. The chassis and the powertrain will mimic what’s offered in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, including a new powertrain. To learn more about that, check out my article here.
Unlike Chevrolet, GMC forgoes an all-in off-roading approach and instead leans in on the luxury side of the pick-up truck market. Granted, we’ll still see the Sierra AT4X, outfitted similarly to the Silverado ZR2 with a two-inch lift and 35-in mud terrain tires among the mods. But we also get a new Denali Ultimate to play with. The ultra-luxury, above Denali trim, which debuted on the truck in 2024, returns with pizazz.

What is Denali Ultimate?
The Denali Ultimate stands out with nice materials used in the interior, including what GMC calls forged wood. I experienced and quite enjoyed a version of this as a judge for Wards Auto in the recent, 2026 10 best Interiors & User Experience Awards, with the GMC Acadia Denali Ultimate winning one of the coveted spots.
But specifically for the Sierra Denali Ultimate, you’ll also get the brand new, top-of-the-line, 6.6-liter V-8 as the standard engine. It makes an unknown amount of horsepower and torque but will certainly beat the 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft of torque of the current 6.2-liter.
You also get more than 60-in of screens inside. That starts with the 16.3-in center display and 12.2-in digital instrument cluster, as do all GMC and Chevrolet trucks. But also, an 11.5-in passenger display, a 15-in head-up display, and an 8.5-in digital rearview mirror, which GMC calls “rear camera mirror.” Moreover, GMC says the center display articulates to reveal a hidden storage space behind it.
There’s also a 16-speaker Bose audio system, which includes speakers mounted in the headrest. Finally going Denali Ultimate includes a three-year subscription to Super Cruise, GM’s sustained hands-free driving technology.

AT4X
GMC calls its top off-road truck the other “flagship” trim. As mentioned above, you get a two-inch lift compared to other Sierras and 35-in mud terrain tires mounted. It also includes Multimatic spool valve shock absorber and jounce control dampers, the latter help handle high-speed impacts. Moreover, both the front- and rear-differentials are electronically locking. That should get you from a to b, even if that involves scaling steep hills of mud and, perhaps, fording a stream or two.
GMC adds a fair bit of luxury as well. Specifically for the AT4X, you get a panoramic moonroof, what GMC calls “Timber Mahogany colorway,” a flat-bottom steering wheel, and stainless-steel speaker doors.

Powertrain
Just like the Silverado, GMC largely maintains course when it comes to what’s under the hood: a turbocharged four-cylinder, a diesel six-cylinder, and two V-8s. However, the last two are new.
The 5.3-liter, which makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft of torque steps aside to make way for a 5.7-liter replacement. And the 6.2-liter, spinning up 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft., heads to the bin, with the aforementioned 6.6-liter coming into replace it. We do not yet know any power or fuel economy numbers. But rest assured I’ll keep my eyes peeled and share once they arrive.

Conclusion
GMC calls the Denali Ultimate and AT4X, the two “flagships.” Four other trims do also come along for the debut, the Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The Pro functions as GMC’s version of the Silverado WT or Work Truck. The Elevation, on the other hand, serves as a lower cost stepping stone to more luxury trucking. The AT4 and Denali, now find themselves as stepping stones themselves, but this time to the two top trims.

All of this could prove quite compelling. Of course, the remaining unknown is price. How much will the GMC truck cost? And, critically, how much more than the Silverado variants? If it’s not too much more, I like trucks and I like luxury: sign me up.
