Porsche Rows Its Own to a New Lap Record!

The 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 equipped with a manual transmission just lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife quicker than any other three-pedal production car.

With brand ambassador Joerg Bergmeister behind the wheel, the 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 equipped with a six-speed manual transmission just lapped the Nordschleife in six minutes and 56.3 seconds or 6:56.3. That sets the record for production, three-pedal cars. It’s also quicker than the previous record by nearly 10 seconds. It even beats the outgoing, 992.1 GT3 with the quicker shifting PDK by 3.6 seconds.

GT3 Details

More specifically, Mr. Bergmeister piloted a 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 with the Weissach Package. That car makes use of the same 4.0-liter flat-six engine in the standard GT3. It produces 502 horsepower and 331 lb.-ft of torque. Porsche also installed an eight-percent shorter final-drive ratio compared to the outgoing GT3 manual.

The Weissach package adds a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) anti-roll bar, coupling rods, and shear panels for the rear axle. Porsche also swaps CFRP for the roof, rear wing endplates, top of the sideview mirror covers, and more. That’s in addition to a few changes in the interior.

More critical to lap time, Porsche will build the GT3 with very lightweight magnesium wheels and mount Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires one them, 255/35 R 20 at the front and 315/30 R 21 at the rear. The tires bring grip levels incredibly close to race rubber. Yet, they technically still meet the standards for rubber on the road.

Of course, were it equipped with the PDK, the 2025 GT3 would lap the Nordschleife even quicker. For example, it only needs 3.2 seconds to reach 60 mph from rest, verses 3.7 seconds for the manual. But, because the manual now holds a record, it’s more fun to talk about, not to mention drive.

Nordschleife records

The overall production car lap record is currently held by the Mercedes-AMG One. A car that starts with a literal formula-one engine. It achieved a lap time of under six and a half minutes. No manual though.

I applaud Porsche for continuing to highlight its manual transmission equipped cars and hope that enough folks continue to buy them.

And I am encouraged by what Porsche has to say on the subject, “More and more customers of the 911 GT3 are opting for the six-speed manual transmission. And more and more often we are asked by these customers how fast a 911 GT3 with manual transmission would be on the Nordschleife”, Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Cars said. “We have now answered this question.”

Indeed you have.
