Fling some sand in the New Ram RHO

Ram just added the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO to its line-up, another off-road variant, this one above the Rebel. A Twin-Turbo 3.0-liter makes 540 HP and 521 lb.-ft.

This is the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO. It’s not a TRX replacement, rather a new, three-letter-named, off-road capable variant of the updated full-size pickup. Ram did not say what RHO stands for, but I guess Ram High Output is as good as any. Whatever RHO stands for, think of it as a Ram Rebel plus. Rebel plus more power, more suspension travel, more equipment and even more luxury.

To start, it gets the hottest engine in the 2025 line-up, the Hurricane High Output (H.O.), a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder that makes a peak 540 horsepower and  521 lb.-ft of torque. That pairs with an eight-speed automatic and a full-time four-wheel-drive system.

The RHO also gets its air inducted from the hood and comes with a unique high-flow exhaust. Altogether, Ram says the RHO will reach 60 mph from rest in 4.6 seconds and cross the ¼ mile in 13.1 seconds. Towing capacity is a less impressive 8380 lbs. and payload only 1520 lbs. But clearly, Ram built this truck for other purposes.

The RHO stands 11.8-inch off the ground, wears 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain tires, and enjoys 13-inches of suspension travel on the front axle, 14-inches on the rear. Suspension components include forged aluminum upper and lower control arms, Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shocks, and a fully floating Dana 60 rear axle.

That combination widens the RHO’s track a full six-inches over the rest of the Ram 1500 line-up. And, In addition to a bunch of off-road capability, you can also ford up to 32-inches of water.

Styling wise, the RHO stands out with Plastic fender flares over the A/T tires, a unique RAM badge, front grille, hood, skid plates and steel bumpers. The RAM badge is lettering open to the grille to let air “flow-through.” There’s also LED lights everywhere – including integrated into the hood scoop.

In back you see a RAM badge like the Ram Rebel on the tailgate. And, for good measure, Ram attached tow hooks and both front and back.

Inside, however, lies a surprising amount of luxury. For example, you get 12-way power leather seats. Those seats are heated, ventilated, and massaging.

That keeps you comfortable while looking at the 2.3-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display, 14.5-inch center display, and the 10.3-inch passenger display. You shift with aluminum paddles mounted on the wheel and gaze at carbon fiber accents included in the interior. Oh, and the RHO offers dual wireless smartphone chargers, side by side.

Of course, you also get many drive modes: Auto, Tow, Mud/Sand, Rock, Snow, Sport, Baja, Custom, as well as a Valet mode. And, why not, launch control, too.

Expect to see the RHO arrive later in the summer this year, but feel free to order one now, Ram says. To do so will require at least $71,990, including destination charge. Certainly not cheap, but less expensive than the Ford F-150 Raptor and the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2.

My Review of the updated 2025 Ram 1500.

Again, this is not a TRX replacement, but it is a very capable truck that beats both the ZR2 and Raptor in power outputs.  The Hurricane H.O. felt strong in the 2025 Ram Limited I drove, and I can’t imagine it will disappoint here. Hopefully I will find out soon with a test drive.
