Crank Out the Power in the Mustang GTD!

Ford recently announced final power figures for the upcoming, mega capable 2025 Ford Mustang GTD. The 5.2-liter V-8 delivers big torque too. Save your pennies!

Ford kept the turbochargers aside for the mega road legal race car named Mustang GTD. Opting instead for a big supercharger bolted on top of a 5.2-liter V-8. Thanks to the addition of a dry-sump oil system, it spins up to 7650 rpm before hitting any kind of rev limiter. And, in the process, the V-8 delivers a wolf howl worthy 815 horsepower from the crankshaft.

On the way to its redline, you’ll feel 664 lb.-ft of torque pulling you along, which is just a smidge under double of what the base 2024 Pony car’s get to play with. To be fair, I bet the Ecoboosted Mustangs provide better fuel economy.

Before making its way to the rear wheels, all the GTD’s power and torque first channels through an eight-speed, dual-clutch transaxle. It’s mounted behind the driver to improve weight distribution, among other advantages.

Let it wail and you’ll eventually reach 202 mph, Ford says. A figure that matches the official number of the 2013 Ford Mustang GT500. But, this time, I bet it will be easier for independent testers to confirm it.

And, unlike that GT500, top speed did not lead the priroities of the GTD, “We’ve combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power and aerodynamics,” Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall. “We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers.”

That’s less than seven minutes around the Nordschleife, by the way.

When Ford first revealed the GTD last year, it promised to “reach or exceed” 800 horsepower. It’s officially exceeded. I cannot wait to see what we learn next.
