Stand Back in Awe of the new Porsche 911!

The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera received subtle styling changes with its 992.2 refresh. You get more power, more tech, and only one transmission to choose…for now.

Check it out! It’s the new, refreshed 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera. It’s an update to the 992.1, which first arrived in 2020.

The 992.2 generation Carrera stands out with standard Matrix LED headlights and a subtly restyled front end. The rear also sees some changes to the light strip with an integrated light arc and Porsche lettering. Porsche also played with bumper design and raised the license plate mount in the process.

Dimensionally, the Carrera is effectively the same, but about 0.5-inch longer and a couple tenths taller than the 992.1. Finally, Carrera wheel sizes start at 19 inches in front 20s in back and go to 20s up front, 21s at the rear. In summary, it still looks like a 911.

Compared to the new, GTS T-Hybrid, a lot less changed mechanically to the base Carrera, but engineers did manage to squeeze an additional nine horsepower out of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter, flat-six. You now get a total of 388 horsepower and the same as before 331-lb.-ft of torque.

Porsche accomplished this by using the 992.1 Turbo model’s charge air-cooler and 992.1 GTS’s turbochargers. The one and only transmission for the Carrera is an eight-speed PDK, more on that in a moment.

0-60 mph accel times drop by a tenth of a second to 3.9, if you get the Sport Chrono Package, you’ll reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Top Speed is 183 mph.

Along with powertrain, the 911 Carrera includes standard PASM, Porsche active suspension management, their name for adaptive shock absorbers. And brakes grew just a bit. Six-piston calipers clamp on 13.8-inch rotors up front, that’s up from four-piston and 13.0 rotors. Rear brake rotors are four-pot calipers and also 13.8-inch rotors.

Inside, Porsche ditched key like knob to turn on the left of the wheel for a standard push button starter. It is still to the left of the wheel. But it is also a bit of a bummer. And all analog gauges disappeared, exchanged for a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster screen. And I have to say that bums me out a bit too. Progress, I suppose. Carrying on is the 10.9-inch center display.

Some good news, the Carrera now comes standard with the mode switch on the steering wheel. Drive modes will be normal, sport, and wet. If you get the Sport Chrono Package, that now only adds one driving mode—sport plus—because you can now individualize all but the normal driving mode.

The base price for a 992.2 generation 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera is $122,095 (including the $1995 destination charge). And, for an extra $13,300, you can instead get the Carrera Cabriolet, $135,395 out the door.

It’s true. None of the 2025 model year 911s currently offer a manual transmission. It’s PDK across the board. That is sad. I love the added engagement that a manual provides. And Porsche provides some of the best versions of manuals out there.

Indeed, the last 911 I drove was the 2023 Carrera T with a manual and I absolutely loved it.

But, even with the 992.1, manual transmission offerings dwindled. If I remember correctly, you had to get a Carrera T or an S for Porsche to even offer one.

So far, Porsche only announced the GTS hybrid and this standard Carrera. I still hold out hope that as new versions of the 992.2 get announced and the manual will resurface once again.

Fingers crossed.
