The updated, 2025 Genesis GV80 receives styling tweaks outside and a 27-in screen inside, as well as other new tech. It’s Turbo 3.5-liter V-6 power carries on.
What’s Good Smooth and quiet ride. Progressive power delivery. Loads of luxury for the price. The cabin provides plenty of practical space. | What Could Improve Even in sport mode, the chassis feels less athletic than its German rivals. The massaging seat not as relaxing as Mercedes-Benz | My Conclusion Impressive restraint shown from Genesis to improve the GV80 without sacrificing any of its original charm. For your money, the GV80 offers quite a lot. |
OVERVIEW
Genesis updated the GV80, its largest SUV, for the 2025 model year. You’ll see a modified grille, new headlights, an all-metal emblem, and new wheel designs among the updates. Inside shows bigger changes and I mean that literally. The powertrain and chassis essentially carries on as before. I wrote a full review for Gear Junkie about the GV80, check it out here.
Powertrain
Genesis left both powertrain options for the updated GV80. You choose between the base turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine, which produces 300 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft of torque. Or, go big and get the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6, do so and feel an extra 75 horsepower and 91 lb.-ft of torque. Not to mention a broader torque band in the mid-range.
All Genesis GV80s use an eight-speed automatic transmission and send power to all four wheels, regardless of which engine lies under the hood.
I drove the 3.5T Prestige Genesis GV80 and quite enjoyed the smoothness of the powertrain. Engineers clearly put a lot of effort into making each gear change and power application progressive. You sacrifice 50 milliseconds of speed in shifts for it, a happy trade off in this vehicle class.
Chassis
Much like the powertrain, little changed with the chassis. But Genesis added more sound insulation around the C and D pillars of the cabin. It worked. Cabin isolation is excellent. You roll down the road comfortably, too. The soft suspension tune easily absorbs all imperfections in the road, little and large. But handling sharpness suffers as a result.
Details and Inside
One, 27-inch screen spans across the top of the dash to function as both a digital instrument cluster and center display. The organic light-emitting-diode, or OLED screen offers crisp, bright, and detailed graphics and stands tall and thin, little more than half-an-inch (13 mm) I would guess.
In the 3.5T Prestige trim, you also get heated and ventilated seats for both passengers in front and two of the three in back. Not to mention a seat massager for the driver. I appreciate it, but also must admit that other brand’s massager’s, especially Mercedes-Benz does it better.
No matter, I appreciate the amount of amenities offered and the layout of the cabin, generally. And the generous space provided behind the second row, 35 cubic feet, or behind the first with the second row folded, 84 cubic feet. For this class of crossover SUV, that efficient packaging.
in conclusion
When Genesis first introduced the GV80 for the 2021 model year, it impressed me. Smart design, good power choices, and ample luxury for your dollar. Consumers agree, as the GV80 leads the charge for the brand.
These updates show Genesis intelligence and patience. All involved showed restraint, kept the styling updates subtle and the technology updates useful, as opposed to merely gimmicky.
Base price continues at 2024 levels, $59,050. But, that is for the slightly less equipped GV80 2.5T standard. Still, the tippy-top 3.5T Prestige requires a reasonable $80,650 to drive off the lot. Considering the content provided, it’s a relative bargain. And Genesis now provides five additional trims in between: 2.5T AWD, 2.5T Select, 2.5T Advanced, 2.5T Prestige, and 3.5T Advanced.
Unless you’re a diehard enthusiast that needs quick reflexes in your family sized premium SUV, the Genesis GV80 looks quite attractive, inside and out.
