Roll through town silently, in the New Volvo ES90!

Expected to arrive in the U.S. in the coming months, the ES90 is Volvo’s newest, fully electric fastback sedan. It packs 800 volts, loads of power, and advanced hardware.

Volvo just revealed its sixth electric vehicle, the ES90 fastback sedan. It’s a tallish sedan with a fastback rear-end. Think of it like an enlarged Polestar 2. The ES90 debuts a new 800-volt electrical system for Volvo, as well. And a new, more powerful computing system to power it all.

But let’s take a moment to celebrate the launch of a new car. The ES90, lands in the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class lane of premium sedans. Albeit a touch taller and with a highish 7.2-inch ground clearance.

800-VOLT POWERTRAIN

You choose between three propulsion options. All three use a new 800-volt system to energize them. That allows for up to 350 kW of fast charging power, which Volvo says will add 186 miles of driving range to the battery in 10 minutes time, though that number is based on the European cycle. And a 10-80 percent charge in as little as 20 minutes.

The base, single motor, rear-wheel-drive setup delivers 329 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft of torque. It draws power from a 92-kWh battery pack. The other two options provide all-wheel-drive. They are called: dual motor and dual motor performance. The former combines power from electric motors on each axle to deliver a total 443 horsepower and 494 lb.-ft of torque. And the latter goes full bonkers mode, delivering 671 horsepower and 642 lb.-ft of torque in total. Whoa!

The single motor gets a 92 kWh battery pack. The two all-wheel-drive options make use of a larger, 106 kWh battery pack, which offers a range of 435 miles on the WLTP cycle (EPA will show less range). By the way, all three versions will easily each the governed 112 mph top speed.

SPACE AND LUXURIES INSIDE

Inside, you see a 14.5-inch center display that includes the usual amenities and Google Built-in. From there, all pertinent driving info comes courtesy of a nine-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a head-up display. Of course, with all of those cameras mounted, you also get a 360-degree view of the car’s immediate surroundings too.
